Starting something (part 2/52)
September 21, 2009 |
Last week we were successful a cleaning up most of our mess from the grand opening, and getting home before we turned to pumpkins. Someone please remind me about the cables going up the back stairs that still need cleaning up.
Saturday morning I thought I’d do some reconnaissance to prepare moving a switch into the communications room of the new building. Before long I had managed to hose a vm host holding the network services as well as the outward facing web server. The vms have been transferred to another host and we’re currently performing maintenance that was planned, just not quite so soon!
People are of course excited to get into the new space and start to use it, and we need to support this when we can, but we also have to say attention to setting up the infrastructure so that we’re reducing the amount of binder twine and adhesive tape holding things together.
- This week we need to document the patch bays for telephone and network so that we know what drops are where. This is perfect job for the YoungBucks, should they remember to come!
- We need to raise the renovated vm host which now has mirrored 72Gb drives, and improvement over the 16Gb disks previously used.
- Carl needs unfettered time to complete the desktop maintenance that should have happened last week (ThirdThursday).
- We likely will need to mount the flat screen TV on the wall in the Family Room. Anthony has talked of mounting it Tuesday night, but did comment that it be set on a stable table until we had the people/time to do it (which I assume to be Thursday
- We need to locate some materials and equipment and gather them on the 3rd Floor so that the installers coming Friday can look after mounting the satellite dish and run the cable to the video patch bay communications room. This will support a remote site we’re hosting for a Willow Creek conference in a few weeks.
No doubt I’ve left something off the list. None the less I think there’s lots to do and I’ll ensure that there are donuts to fill in the spare moments…
