Buzzing with Anticipation

Based on the buzz, we can begin the count down to moving out of our current holding pattern avec binder twine and string and into the Christian Education Wing which is nearing completion! Based on this, there are several things that need to get ironed out in addition to some ad-hoc items.
- Complete NameServices. Last winter we had a server melt-down (also termed a “learning opportunity”
) and had to rebuild our name services from scratch. While we did get things back up and running for our servers and printers, we still need to complete this process for all of our machines and devices so that we can route traffic appropriately come CEWing. - Configure Network Monitoring. Another useful service that “went south” last spring simply because there wasn’t enough disk space was Spiceworks. Now that we’ve rekitted at least one machine it’s back online, but we need to configure machines so that they can be automatically inventoried by Spiceworks.
- Setup the Evaluation Machine for the Library. We’re not the only ones excited for (and desperately in need of) space. In anticipation of their new space, the Library Crew would like software to support their ministry. We have a machine configured for them, but their space is so tight that they don’t have any place to store it (including under anything!) never mind set it up temporarily. I’m hoping that by Thursday I’ll have some feedback on where to put it so they can do their homework.
- Finish Desktop Scrum. I forgot to send out reminders to staff last week and so there are some machines left to be updated. And we can do the client configuration for Spiceworks at the same time.
- Setup for MovieMorning. Sunday morning KidzTown will be showing a movie so we need to get video and audio worked laid on.
Somewhere in there we need to think about a schedule for getting/installing the CE Wing gear over the summer. And it really should be a priority, so we’ll plan for some donut time to work it through.

I’m so brilliant that sometimes I can’t keep up with myself. The dhcp and bind files have indeed been updated and so really what’s needed is to fill in the missing mac addresses to complete the inventory!
