The day the server died

March 11, 2009 |

Q: What happens when your IP and name services die?

A: Nothing.

And that’s the way it was last Friday when our network services vm died. No amount of tinkering, no backup no nothing could fix it. And so after an evening of formally recording hardware ethernet addresses we’re functional. But not completely functioning. So on top of the usual ThirdThursday Desktop updates, we’ll be completing the network resurrection. Of course once that’s completed we’ll also be improving our backup (so that it works!) When I announced this to a friend, his reply was,

“If I had $1.00 for every time I said that I’d STILL have a mortgage…but one much, much smaller ;)”

Nice to know that we’re not alone in our good intentions, but hopefully we’ll have the follow through!
